I always knew that I'm not getting from batelco what I pay for. But seeing the bandwidth test results on this interesting website, speedtest.net, is excruciatingly painful.
DSL connections by their nature are contention-based, which means that your connection would be shared by a number of other people. Somewhere in the small print in your agreement with batelco you might (or might not since I personally haven't looked) find that. The contention is decided by the ISP, for example it can be 1-15, or 1-8, meaning that if all other 8 or 15 you are sharing your connection with try to use utilize it at the same time your speed will decrease. The lower the number is, the better. A 1-4 contention will give a much better performance than 1-15. ISPs usually offer businesses better services but for higher prices. You can even go for a dedicated connection, but that can cost you lots.
